SECURITY
Big Bad Joburg isn't as bad you heard and common sense should keep you safe. Braamfontein is generally a fairly safe area. During the day you are very unlikely to experience any trouble in the vicinity of the hotel. That said, unless you have loads of swagger, avoid walking alone late at night unless in the area close to the hotel. You will see many people walking alone at night in the vicinity of the hotel, as the immediate area has its own security. If someone confronts you with a weapon, it is probably best to give them what they want.

Areas to be especially careful and best avoided on foot are: Dark, dirty areas at night; Hillbrow; Berea; the CBD across the railway tracks; all the bridges across the railway tracks (including Mandela Bridge); the area near Park Station; Enoch Sontonga Road alongside the graveyard.

TRANSPORT AROUND JOHANNESBURG
The hotel is centrally situated in Johannesburg and well serviced (by Johannesburg standards) with transport.
Gautrain:
The new & fast underground train is very good for getting to Rosebank, Sandton, Pretoria and the OR Tambo Airport. Trains leave every 12 -30 minutes and are also serviced by the Gautrain Busses. www.gautrain.co.za/
Bus:
In addition to the Gautrain busses, there are the Metro Busses, the Rea Vaya Busses (www.reavaya.org.za). These stop close to the hotel.
Taxi's:
There are three totally different taxi's.
Cabs:
Are a mixed bunch from the formal to the unregistered that can take you anywhere. Fares are generally around R12-R15 per kilometre with a certain minimum. Here are a few companies.
Rose Taxi's 011 403 0000 ; Zebra Cabs 0861 105 105
Taxi's:
There are many "minibus" taxi's that operate around Johannesburg. These minibusses go on fixed routes and are convenient though they have a reputation for dangerous driving. A fare is typically around R10.
Tuk Tuks:
A new form of transport for Johannesburg that's becoming popular. They charge R5/km with a minimum charge of R25.

BANKING
There are a number of banks along Jorissen St.
For an after-hour ATM go to BonJour Café @ the nearby Total Garage.
