THE BANNISTER HOTEL

The Bannister Hotel launched in 2013.  Ideally situated in the heart of Braamfontein,  Johannesburg’s most vibrant district.

Transport & Getting around

The hotel is centrally situated in Johannesburg and well serviced (by Johannesburg standards) with transport.

City Sightseeing Bus:
This is a hop-on-hop off open-top red double decker bus service. It's routes are designed to cover Joburg's best places to visit and sights to see. There is a bus stop 1 block from the Bannister. Highly recommended. www.citysightseeing.co.za/

Gautrain:
The new & fast underground train is very good for getting to Rosebank, Sandton, Pretoria and the OR Tambo Airport. Trains leave every 12 -30 minutes and are also serviced by the Gautrain Busses. www.gautrain.co.za/

Bus:
In addition to the Gautrain busses, there are the Metro Busses, the Rea Vaya Busses (www.reavaya.org.za). These stop close to the hotel.

Uber Taxify (local app) are well used and popular services taking you anywhere at any time of day or night at reasonable rates.

Meter Taxi's / Cabs:
Sometimes good; sometimes bad. These guys tend to overcharge. Be careful. There are a mixed bunch from the formal to the unregistered that can take you anywhere. Here are a few companies.
Rose Taxi's 011 403 0000 ; Zebra Cabs 0861 105 105

Minibus Taxi's:
There are many "minibus" taxi's that operate around Johannesburg. These minibusses go on fixed routes and are convenient though they have a reputation for dangerous driving. A fare is typically around R20.

Tuk Tuks:
A new form of transport for Johannesburg that's becoming popular. They charge R5/km with a minimum charge of R25.
